Bennett Office Building The Bennett office building survived the Rubaiyat Lounge fire next door, and the city’s attempt to condemn the building afterwards. The owner refused to sign a “hold harmless agreement” that released the city from any responsibility if the common wall between the buildings collapsed during the removal of the Rubaiyat remains. This led to a four year battle keeping the fire site from being cleared. The building was recently torn down, leaving a cavity in the middle of the 1800 block of Broadway. The Railway Express Building can be seen through the hole.
