Congregational Church
The First Congregational Church was built in 1871 at 1520 Charleston. In 1925, the church was reorganized as Central Community Church. The church and the parsonage which sat to the east of the church on Charleston Avenue were torn down in 1965 after Mattoon Federal Savings and Loan purchased the site for their new facilities. Mattoon Federal has since been taken over by First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust. They still occupy the site. The Central Community Church relocated to their new site on East Lafayette. They salvaged the stained glass, organ, and bell for their new building.
