Furste Warehouse Furste Auto Supply was located on Broadway where Living Color is today. Their warehouse was across the New York Central tracks. The building abutted both the Illinois Central and New York Central, and its angles were parallel to both.
In 1986, the City purchased the building as part of the YMCA transaction. Some City departments used the building for storage but it was never maintained. It was demolished in 1995.
Furste Warehouse is the first building east of the subway.
A mural was painted on the building shortly before demolition
The slab was briefly used for a skate park sponsored by the YMCA, but it has since closed due to a lack of insurance. |
