Hayes Freight Lines

Hayes Freight Lines opened in 1884 as a one horse business.  It soon became motorized and served eight states by 1935.  In 1933, their offices were in this large building on the west side of 15th Street south of the NYC tracks.  The firm was sold in 1949, and administrative offices were moved to Springfield in 1952.

The building caught fire in 1970 and was destroyed.  It was replaced in 1972 by the Bauer building, which was recently purchased by the Upchurch Group.
