IC Shops

With the advent of diesel power, the operations at the roundhouse were no longer needed.  So in 1963, the Illinois Central Railroad constructed a diesel 'service station' at 19th and Marion. The former shops were then demolished.  The mill room and boiler room were built in 1880 and the roundhouse constructed in 1914.  At their peak, the IC shops employed over 200 employees.
