Meadow Gold Dairy

The Meadow Gold Dairy was built in 1928 as an ice cream production plant.  Milk and cottage cheese were added to production in the 1930’s.  By the late 1950’s, only milk was produced here, 144,000 gallons per week.  A second floor was added to the building.

Beatrice Foods, owner of Meadow Gold, ceased milk production at the Mattoon facility in 1982.  They moved the Mattoon operations to Champaign..  The building was razed a few years later.
