New York Central Freight DepotThe New York Central Freight Depot was located in the north side of the NYC tracks, east of the passenger depot. The building was used for 101 years by the New York Central and its predecessors, Terre Haute and Alton, Indianapolis and St. Louis, and CCC & St. L. From 1860 to 1961, this building freight was loaded and unloaded here. After its closing, freight personnel were moved to the passenger depot. Most NYC freight operations were moved to St. Louis. In 1963, the railroad sold the depot at a nominal fee and tore it down. This was an effort to improve the appearance of the NYC property. The area is used for the YMCA parking lot today.
There is no longer any evidence of the freight depot
