Salvation Army Chapel
In 1929, the Salvation Army acquired the Chapel formerly occupied by the Pilgrim Holiness Church. For 34 years, they used the building, including during the depression where they operated a soup kitchen here. Shortly after purchasing the building, they built an addition where the commander and his family lived. The lumber for the addition was donated by the Big Four Railroad.
In 1963, the Salvation Army moved operations to 300 North 14th Street. They are still located here today, albeit in a different building. The chapel was used by several small congregations in the coming years. But in 1978, it was demolished for an expansion for the Coca Cola plant. |
